Barbara Sweeney

If you enjoy reading the food stories in Country Style, you’ll know Barbara Sweeney’s work. As a food writer in pursuit of tasty stories about farmers, food producers and chefs, she’s tasted oysters moments after harvest, fended off curious piglets, and, as regional editor of the SMH Good Food Guide, sat down to dinner in many of the country’s best restaurants. In her spare time, she reads cookbooks like novels – and that’s what this workshop is all about. Cookbook love. If you share the love come along with your favourite cookbooks tucked under your arm for this fun-filled morning tea and talk. Topics on the table include great food writing, inspiring cookbooks and the trailblazers – Elizabeth David, Nigella Lawson, Christine Manfield and Yotam Ottolenghi among them. In addition to writing, Barbara organises the Food & Words writers’ festival and runs the Talking Cookbook project. She recently spoke about her work at the Ballymaloe Food & Wine Litfest in Ireland.
