Alex Elliott-Howery is the co-founder of what has become a thriving and boundary - breaking food community in inner Sydney. She runs the Cornersmith cafes, renowned for their big hearts and strong conscience when it comes to sustainably sourced food. Alex teaches pickling and preserving workshops at the Cornersmith cooking school, the Picklery. She is the co-author of two cookbooks, Cornersmith Recipes from the Café and Picklery and the recent release Salads & Pickles. Alex has a passion for using traditional preserving and pickling techniques to reduce food waste in her home and business kitchens.

This hands-on informative class is for anyone looking to develop their preserving and pickling skills this Autumn. You will learn multiple techniques, and we will cover the importance of choosing seasonal produce, sterilizing, storage and handy tips for altering recipes. Alex will also discuss her passion for preserving to combat food waste in kitchens and gardens. Plus show you quick and easy ideas to make use of what is in your fridge, fruit bowl and garden. Add to  your pantry preserved lemons, pumpkin & sesame relish, pickled fennel, and pickled pears. These delicious recipes are fabulous tossed through salads, vegetables, on cheese plates, with meats or you can even use your pickled pears as a not so sweet dessert.
